Students Activity 2019-20
Campus Interview:
CRC-K could organize campus Interview for students on 18th May 2019. Five reputed institutions took part in the campus interview and around ten students got placement.
RCI inspection: New Courses
Rehabilitation Council of India conducted an inspection at CRC-Kozhikode as part of assessment of institution for diploma and certificate level courses on 11th May 2019. Experts from NIEPID Secendrabad and CRC-Ahmadabad visited CRC-K. Subsequently, the approval for conduct of the courses got renewed for a further period of three years by RCI.
The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) inspection as part of starting B. Ed SpecialEducation. Full time degree courses at CRC-K was held on 29th November 2019. Subsequently, RCI approval was obtained to start B. Ed Special Education - Intellectual Disability (ID) at CRC-K.
Workshop Conducted for Students:
Mr. Giridhar, Associate Professor Adaptive Physical Education and Yoga Sreeramakrishna University, Coimbatore was resource person on ‘Adaptive Physical Education’ for HRD students of D.Ed course on 27th July2019.
Ms. Seema, BRC, Kozhikode was resource person on ‘Art and Craft’ on for HRD students of D.Ed course on 31th July 2019.
Dr. Anil Kumar, District Coordinator of SSK, Kozhikode was resource person for the programme held ‘Inclusive Education’ on 11th November 2019.
Dr. Bindiya Shajith, MITR Bangalore was resource person for two days workshop programme on the topic ‘TEACCH approach’ for HRD students of 1st year and 2nd year D.Ed courseon 8thand 9th December 2019.
Two days’ workshop for the CCCG students on the topic ‘Care giving for persons with Visual Impairment’. Mr. Yasir AK (HM in charge, Kerala School for the Blind, Vallikapatta, Malappuram) was resource person for the programme conducted at CRC Kozhikode on 1stand 2ndJanuary 2020.
Dr. Giselle Lobo, Head, Inclusive Education, Sethu Centre for Child Development and Family Guidance, Goa lead five days intensive training workshop on ‘Teaching Approaches for Children with Autism’ for 1st year and 2nd year D. Ed Students from 6th to 10th January 2020.
Educational / Practical Trainings:
Under the supervison of Faculties of Special Education Deaprtment (Dr Sunish T V, Ms. Siaja S, Jensy Varghese, Jomon George, Jaison M Peter), 17 students of second year D.Ed SE (ASD) course undergone 15 days educational trainning for students with conginitive impairments studying in Ashakiran Special School Kozhikode, Rehmania Special School Kozhikode, Prasanthi Special School Pantherankavu and Pratheeksha Special School Mukkom.
Mr. Jomon George, Lecturer coordinated a visit with all students of first year D.Ed. SE (ASD) course to K.E Safia Autism Centre at Mahi on 22nd August 2019, Thursday and Mr. Jim Varghese, Principal of the Centre took an orientation session and explained the activities of various departments to the students. All students actively participated in the visit.
As part of the IEP practical training, the teacher trainees of first year D.Ed. (ASD) provided special education services and care giving to the students having Autism Spectrum Disorder at different Autism Centres under BRC- SSA such as Nadakavu, Kunnamangalam and Mavoor.
D.Ed Special Education (ASD) first year batch, as part of their course curriculum, completed group teaching practical in five selected special schools in Kozhikode districts. Each student took 10 lessons, both curriculum and co-curriculum, as part of the practical under the supervision of faculties. Nearly 250 students benefited out of this training programme.
Conducted a one day institutional visit for CCCG trainees at Kerala School for the Blind, Mankkada, Manjeri, Malappuram district on 3rd February 2020

All India Ranks – The CRC-K Achievement
CRC-K has got total of six all India ranks including four 1st Ranks and two 3rd ranks inthe all India NBER examinations.
CRC-K faculties and students participated in the second convocation conducted by RCI NIEPMD NBER, at MGR Medical University Chennai. The rank holders received medals from the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri. BanwarilalPurohit.

Convocation:
The 2ndcertificate distribution ceremony of HRD courses viz., D.Ed.SE (ASD&C), CCCG, ACCIE(CD) was conducted on 18th January 2019. Dr. P. Mohan, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Calicut was the chief guest of the ceremony. Dr Roshan Bijlee, Director, CRC-K presided over the function. Dr. Gopalakrishnan, Member Senate, University of Calicut, Shri. Abdul Hakkim, District Programme Officer, SSA, Shri. Shivraj Bhimte, Asst. Professor, CRC-K, Shri. Chandran Admin. Officer, CRC-K and Shri. Haneefa, PTA Vice-President attended the programme. Dr.Sunish T V, HoD, Special Education, welcomed the gathering and Shri. Gopiraj, Rehabilitation Officer, CRC-K delivered the vote of thanks.

Exposure visit / educational tour / events / workshop/ activities by HRD students:
D. Ed students visited VKM special school Valancherry on 06.10.2018 in connection with World Cerebral Palsy Day Observation organized by CRC-K in association with VKM special school. The students actively participated in various programme including parents awareness class, painting competition, cultural programmes etc.
D.Ed students visited ‘Karuna Special School for the Hearing Impaired’ on 27.09.2018. Mr. Jomon George, and Smt. Saija S, Lecturers coordinated the visit. Sr. Victoria, Principal of Karuna special school provided orientation about various activities and education programme of the school.
Internship Programme
As part of the academic activities, D.Ed second year trainees completed their 15 days internship training in various special schools in Kerala as per their course specialization. D.Ed.Special Education (CP) students were placed in VKM special school, Valancherry. D.ED.SE (ASD) students were placed in KE Safia Autism Centre, Mahi, Ma’Din Special school Malappuram, AshakiranSpl. School, Kozhikode, and JDT Islam Spl. School Kozhikode.
Dept. of Special Education, CRC-K conducted NBER-RCI term end practical exam for D.Ed special education (ASD, & CP) from 19th to 20th March 2019. 32 students attended the practical Examination.
As part of the IEP practical training of D.Ed.SE (ASD) first year, the teacher trainees with the support of teachers provided special education services to 51 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The trainees were placed in three autism centers under BRC- SSA, Kozhikode namely; Nadakkavu, KunnamangalamandMavoor.
Teaching Practice Training in Special Schools:
D.Ed students of CRC-K, as part of their curriculum requirements, under the guidance of teaching faculties of the Department of Spl. Education, conducted teaching practice training in five special schools vi; JDT Special School, Vellimadukkunnu; Pratheeksha Special School, Mukkom; Prasanthi Special School, Panthirankavu; Ashakiran Special School, Calicut and Rehmania Special School, Velliparamba from 3rd to 19th September 2018.
During the 13 days training programme 340 students with Intellectual Disability (ID) were given clinical services. A total number of 640 follow up services and 6,800 follow up sessions were given in these programme.
The external practical and theory exam of ACCIE (CD) course was held from 9th Sept. and 11th to 14th Sept. 2018 at CRC-K. A sent off was given for all students on the last day.
As part of the academic calendar, D.Ed second year trainees completed their vocational training among children with autism and cerebral palsy. Teacher trainees selected above 18 years students,on the basis of assessment they have planned vocational training programme for each students.
Special Education department conducted parents meeting on 21st march 2019 at CRC Kozhikode. The meeting formed new PTA committee and elected executive committee members including vice president, joint secretary and committee members. 36 parents participated.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
State Level Arts & Cultural Competition for Special Teacher Trainees – CRC-K in State 5th Position
CRC-Kozhikode participated in the state level special teacher trainees arts competition ‘Spandanam’ organized by ‘State Institute for the Mentally Challenged, Govt. of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram from 25th to 26th March 2019. The team consisting of 30 students and three faculties contested in 14 items. CRC-K got the fifth position in the state level competition with 33 points.

Course Certificate Distribution of First Batch of CCCG Course:
The Department of Special Education organized certificate distribution ceremony of Certificate Course in Care Giving on 8th December 2017. Dr M.K. Jayaraj, Director, ULCCF was the chief Guest of the day. Dr Roshan Bijlee K.N., Director CRC-K, Dr P. Krishnakumar, Director, IMHANS, Dr Lulu Mathew, Academic Coordinator, Shri. Chandran T.P, Shri. Venkateswaran (AAO, CRC-K), Shri. Kurinji Chelvan S, Head, Dept. of Occupational Therapy and HoDs of all other departments of CRC attended the programme. Dr M.K. Jayaraj delivered the convocation speech and Dr P. Krishnakumar presented the memento to the first batch CCCG passed out students. Variety of cultural programme were also performed by the students of CRC-K at the end of the function.
Seminar on 'Adapted Physical Education’:
The Department of Special Education organized a one-day seminar on 'Adapted Physical Education for Children with Developmental Disabilities' on 15th January 2018 for D.Ed & CCCG students of CRC-K. Dr, Giridharan, Assistant Professor, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, Coimbatore was the resource person for the seminar. The seminar contained both theoretical and practical sessions. All regular students and faculty attended the seminar.
Workshop for students:
The Department of Special Education organized two days workshop for D.Ed Special Education (ASD & CP) students on 29th & 30th January 2018. The theme of the workshop was 'Individualized Vocational Transition Plan for Adults with Disabilities'. Prof. (Dr) A. T. Thressiakutty, former faulty of NIEPID (NIMH), handled the two days workshop. The workshop contained both theoretical and practical sessions. The workshop was organized in connection with D.Ed practical training in Vocational Transition Plan, as per the D.Ed syllabus of RCI. All second year D.Ed. students attended the workshop.
Group education programme:
D.Ed Special Education (ASD & CP) teacher trainees, as part of their course curriculum requirements, implemented the group education programme under the supervision of department faculties in four special schools namely; Ashakiran Special School, Kozhikode; Rehmania Special School for Mentally Challenged, Velliparambu; Pratheesha Special School, Mukkom, JDT Islam Special School, Vellimadukunnu. As part of the training programme, the Teacher Trainees assess the students' current level and teach curricular and co-curricular subjects in group situation. The total beneficiaries of the programme was 250. The duration of the training programme was 10 working days.
Workshop on Teaching:
As part of the practical training of the D.Ed (ASD), the Department of Special Education organized a
half day workshop on 'Teaching CwASD at inclusive education classroom' on 31st Oct. 2017. The
resource person of the work shop was Dr. Anilkumar A K, BRC Trainer, SSA Kozhikode. The students of first year Diploma (ASD) attended the workshop.

State Special Teachers' Training Colleges Arts Fest (Spandanam 2017)
The Department participated in the State Special Teachers' Training Colleges Arts Fest (Spandanam 2017) held on 24 -25th March 2017 at Pope Paul Mercy Home, Thrissur. Out of 11 institutions participated, Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in its first attempt, scored 16 points and 6th position in the arts fest. 40 students and 3 faculties participated in the arts festival
